Finland is one of the healthiest places on the planet! Obesity rates here are very low, and most people have a good diet and get plenty of exercise. Of course, companies such as iHerb help with that, but it’s more to do with the culture over here. Today, I want to discuss why we Finns are so healthy.
In some parts of the world, such as the UK, getting a takeaway is seen as a very common and normal thing to do. It’s fairly usual to see people who live off of takeaways, for us however, this is seen as almost alien.
Whilst it’s true we do like to enjoy a takeaway sometimes, for most of us, the vast majority of our meals will be home-cooked. This could be by ourselves, our mothers, or our wives. Home cooking is usually far healthier than take away, as it’s lower in saturated fats, and lower in salt. Not to mention it will have far more vegetables.
Also, we love to exercise. But most of the time we don’t even know we’re doing it. In some places, exercising is something that you need to commit to and make an active effort to do.
But over here, most of us will exercise without even thinking about it. If you take a bike instead of a car, you’re exercising. If you use the stairs instead of the escalator, you’re exercising.
The reason why we exercise more is that we think about exercise less!
Vegetables are cheap
In places like America, vegetables can be very expensive. The only place you can get them is from places such as “WholeFoods”. Thankfully, we don’t have that issue. Because it’s so cheap, people can buy vegetables at an affordable price. It’s cheaper to be healthy than it is to be unhealthy, and that’s not something that can be said for the rest of the world.
By making vegetables cheaper, people don’t have to choose between eating a healthy diet and turning on the heating during the winter. The cheapest food you can get in America is processed junk food.
It’s taught from day one
Being healthy is something that’s encouraged in us from a very young age. When we’re kids, we’re taught to love fruit and veg! We’re taught to enjoy eating the things that are good for us. Sweets are seen as a special treat, and fruit is something that kids will ask for, and not something they get forced to eat.
Because we’re used to this healthy start in life, we carry it with us for the rest of our lives. And when we do manage to have children of our own, we pass on those habits to them.
